ADIOS PIAZZOLA: LIVE TANGO Lotte Concert Hall

Jan. 31: Tango dance and music lovers can look forward to "Adios Piazzola: Live Tango" at the Lotte Concert Hall in southern Seoul. Stomp Music has been organizing this sell-out show every year since 2016, providing Argentine tango milonga for Korean audiences.

Two tango dance couples Sebastian Acosta and Laura D’Anna and Miguel Calvo and Pelin Calvo will take to the stage while the Tango Band together with bandoneon player Koh Sang-ji provide the music.

The program includes various tango music familiar to Korean tango fans’ ears, including “Oblivison,” “Libertango,” “Adios Nonino,” “Chin Chin” and “Double Concerto,” among many others.

The show begins at 5 p.m.

Tickets range from 38,500 won ($34.80) to 75,000 won.

THE STUDENT AND MR. HENRI Yes 24 Stage

Through Feb. 14:When Constance decides to depart her hometown against her father's will in order to pursue her studies at the University of Paris, she has no choice but to live with a grumpy, arrogant and ill-tempered old man named Mr. Henri.

Failing to abide by Mr. Henri's countless rules and missing her rent's due date, Constance and Mr. Henri strike a deal that allows her to stay, albeit with consequences. The popular long-running play "The Student and Mr. Henri," based on Ivan Calbérac's book and play of the same name, is currently being staged at the Yes 24 Stage.

Mr. Henri is alternately portrayed by veteran actors Lee Sun-jae and Shin-goo while Yuri of Girls' Generation, Park So-dam and Chae Soo-bin alternate the role of Constance.

The show begins at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays; at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays; and at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. There are no shows on Mondays.

WICKED Blue Square, Sinhan Card Hall

Feb. 16 – May 1:The Korean production of blockbuster Broadway musical "Wicked" is making a return to Korea for the first time in five years. The sell-out show will feature veteran musical actors including Oak Joo-hyun and Son Seung-yeon as Elphaba and Jung Sun-ah and Na Ha-na as Glinda.

Adapted from the best-selling novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" by Gregory Maguire, the musical is an alterative view of L. Frank Baum's famous story "The Wizard of Oz."

Taking the point of view of Oz's witches, "Wicked" shows how the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North were originally close friends.

The musical gained a strong following after its premiere in Korea in 2012 and an 11-month run in 2013.

Performances start at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 3 p.m. on Wednesdays; and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

There are no shows on Mondays.

ORGAN ODYSSEY Lotte Concert Hall

Feb. 24: The Lotte Concert Hall is kicking off one of its signature afternoon concerts, “Organ Odyssey” for 2021 with a concert from organist Park Jun-ho, violinist Kim Ji-yoon and sand artist Park Eun-soo. The upcoming concert is subtitled “Organ Fantasia.”

As the two musicians play on their instruments, sand artist Park will showcase her artwork on a large screen, attempting to create images of the music that’s being played.

The Lotte Concert Hall has been organizing “Organ Odyssey” since 2017, to showcase various concerts using the venue’s grand pipe organ that has about 5,000 pipes and 68 stops.

The concert begins at 11:30 a.m.

Tickets cost 20,000 won.

MUSICAL DUET KT&G Sangsangmadang, Daechi Art Hall

Through Jan.31: "Duet" is returning for the first time in 13 years after it was last performed on home soil in 2007.

Based on the Broadway musical "They're Playing Our Song," it depicts the romantic relationship between top composer Vernon and newbie lyric writer Sonia, who is longing for success.

The pair share a few things in common, but they happen to write a song together. The musical focuses on the rocky relationship between the two and how they eventually fall for each other.

Musical actors Park Gun-hyung and Park Young-su will alternate playing the role of Vernon while singer-actor J-Min and musical actor Moon Jin-ah will double-cast for the role of Sonia.

The musical starts at 8 p.m. from Tuesdays to Fridays; 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on weekends. There are no shows on Mondays.

Tickets range in price from 50,000 won to 70,000 won.

SWAG AGE: SINGING, JOSEON! Seoul Arts Center, CJ Towol

Through Feb. 28: The work is set in a fictional Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) era, which calls for Zijo as the national ideology. The Korean original musical, directed by Woo Jin-ha with screenplay by Park Chang-min, premiered in 2019 and immediately won an ensemble award at the 8th Yegreen Musical Awards.

Ticket prices range from 55,000 won to 99,000 won.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays; at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays.

MONTE CRISTO LG Arts Center

Through March 7: Young and promising sailor Edmond Dantes is living his best life and looking forward to his upcoming marriage to a woman named Mercedes.

But all his hopes are dashed when jealous men scheme against him. Mondego, who also loves Mercedes, and Danglars, who wishes to become the captain of the ship, spread rumors about Edmond and he ends up with a 14-year prison sentence.

Edmond seeks to escape by digging an underground tunnel with the help of Abbe Faria, who tells him about the treasures kept on the island of Monte Cristo. Edmond miraculously succeeds in getting out and reaching the island and ends up a rich man with the new name of "The Count of Monte Cristo."

The Korean production of this popular musical features actors Kai, Um Ki-joon and Sin Seong-rok, who alternate playing the role of the Count, and Oak Joo-hyun, Lee Ji-hye and Lina, who alternate playing the role of Mercedes.

BERNARDA ALBA Jeongdong Theater

Korean production of the musical "Bernarda Alba" is being staged at the Jeongdong Theater in central Seoul. [NEWS1]

Through March 14:Musical "Bernarda Alba," based on a play titled "The House of Bernarda Alba" by the Spanish dramatist Federico Garcia Lorca, is back on home soil after premiering in 2018.

The musical is produced by veteran musical actor Jung Young-joo, who also plays Bernarda Alba in the musical, and directed by Yeon Tae-heum.

The story centers on the events that takes place in a house in Andalusia, Spain, in the 1930s, while Bernarda Arba mourns the death of her husband over an eight-year period. During that time, she wields total control over her five daughters which eventually leads to some confrontation.

Musical actor Lee So-jeong alternates playing the lead role of Bernarda Alba with Jung.

Tickets cost 70,000 won.

MUSICAL GHOST D-Cube Arts Center

Korean production of the popular musical "Ghost" based on the 1990 hit romantic fantasy film of the same title will continue through March 14 at the D-Cube Arts Center in Sindorim, western Seoul. [SEENSEE COMPANY]

Through March 14: Based on the 1990 hit romantic fantasy film "Ghost," the undying love story between Sam and Molly returns to home soil as a musical for the first time in seven years.

Sam is attacked by an unidentified man on his way home one day and eventually dies. But he can't move to the next world after his death and hovers around Molly. He eventually visits a psychic named Oda Mae to ask for help and endeavors to find ways to reach out to his girlfriend.

The musical version of the story premiered on the West End in 2011 and came to Korea in 2013.

It is directed by British director and playwright Matthew Warchus who won numerous awards with musicals like "The Norman Conquests" and "Matilda the Musical."

Actor Joo Won and two musical actors, Kim Woo-hyung and Kim Jin-wook, are triple-cast in the role of Sam while singer-turned-actor Ivy and musical-actor Park Ji-yeon alternate playing the role of Molly.

Two veteran actors, Choi Jung-won and Park Jun-myun, are set to spice up the story by playing the role of Oda Mae.

The musical starts at 7:30 p.m. during weekdays. Two shows are available at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on weekends. There are no shows on Mondays.

Tickets range in price from 60,000 won to 140,000 won.
