South Korea’s anti-piracy naval unit retreated from the Strait of Hormuz in a show of goodwill amid negotiations with Iran over the seized oil tanker and sailors. The Cheonghae Unit was withdrawn before the South Korean delegation, led by First Vice Foreign Minister Choi Jong-kun, arrived in Tehran on Jan. 10. The South Korean-flagged MT Hankuk Chemi was detained by Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps on Jan. 4 on allegations of environmental pollution. The ship carried 20 crew members, including five Koreans.
