Samsung lays out AI and robotic assistance from everyday chores to workout

The latest home appliances from Samsung Electronics were armed artificial intelligence (AI) powered robotic assistance to enrich living experience.

At its first digital showcase for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2021 themed on “Better Normal for All” connectivity and robotics became the centerpiece for new home devices hosted by Seung Hyun-joon, president and head of Samsung Research.

Home cuisine could become easy for anyone through SmartThings Cooking that incorporates AI technology to assist the whole cooking procedures from buying ingredients online to instructing recipe. It connects to online retailers for shopping from the Family Hub refrigerator or users’ mobile screen. The system also delivers detailed recipe information such as proper cooking temperature and time to Samsung Smart Oven.

Samsung Health is a home training service that aims at elevating the home workout experience. The new Smart Trainer system analyzes posture via a camera connected to the TV, calculates calories burned and provides feedback just like a real personal trainer.

Samsung Electronics has already been applying AI technology to its products. Its latest Smart TV optimizes picture and sound quality by analyzing input image and surrounding environment’s lighting and noise. Its Grande AI washer and dryer learn from frequently used features and customize washing and drying cycles.

The company also introduced its new vacuum cleaner robot named JetBot AI that features Intel’s AI solutions for the first time in the world at the press conference. The JetBot AI uses objection recognition technology and self-drives on the optimal cleaning path it sets on its own. Equipped with LiDAR sensors, it avoids fragile objects, cables, socks and pet waste.

Also part of its robotic lineup is Samsung Bot Handy. It is a house chore service robot in development, which can pick up and move objects and sort out the dishes after a meal.
