12,000 litres of alcohol disposed in Cape Town

epa07166931 A 340 Euros worth bottle of Gran Patron tequila amongst the 16,926 bottles of alcohol amounting up to 12,000 litres, which City of Cape Town law enforcement officials disposed of in Cape Town, South Africa, 15 November 2018. The disposal is part of the City's operational readiness plan for the festive season which takes effect annually in late November. The alcohol was confiscated from beaches and other public spaces in the previous financial year and needs to be disposed of to make way for the expected confiscations that are likely to consume much of the festive season policing efforts. Statistics indicate a high number of accidents and incidents of violence on Cape Town's beaches over the festive season are alcohol related.
