Discovery of new mosaic floor provides important evidence of Roman Period쟧n Cyprus
epa05424424 An archaeologist works on a mosaic depicting Hercules in Larnaca, Cyprus, 14 July 2016. The mosaic floor was found during excavation work for the construction of the city’s sewage system. A preliminary estimation suggested that the mosaic is dated to the Roman Period and depicts the scenes of the Labours of Hercules. Written sources and inscriptions provide information that Ancient Kition played an important role in the establishment of Roman culture in Cyprus during the Roman Period, however, up to this day Roman remains found in the city are very few.
