South Korea's leading electronic maker LG Electronics will participate in a smart grid demonstration project in the US.
LG announced Thursday that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with US-based Pecan Street Inc. to boost its cooperation for the smart grid demonstration project.
Pecan Street is conducting one of the world's most advanced smart grid demonstration project 'Pecan Street Project' in Austin, Texas from 2010 to 2015.
The companies committed to the project include Sony, Intel, Best Buy and Oracle.
For its part in the demonstration, LG will install its advanced smart grid-ready products including air conditioners, smart refrigerators, smart washing machines, the Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) and LED lighting in participating homes in the latter half (H2) of next year.
LG is expecting that its involvement in the project will provide enhanced technology verification regarding smart appliances and energy management system and promote analysis of electricity usage pattern.
LG is continuing its deep involvement in the national smart grid project in Jeju along with fellow participants LG Chem, LG Uplus, LG CNS, and GS E & C since 2010. LG also joined the German government's Smart Watts project, becoming the first Korean company to export its smart grid expertise to Europe.
