South Korea's LG Electronics announced on Tuesday that it has released the world's first glassless cinema 3D monitor (model number: DX 2000) in the Korean market.

This is the latest of LG's attempt to conquer the entire 3D lineup, from 3D TVs to monitors, projectors, notebooks, and smartphones. By banking on its innovative 3D technology, the company hopes to secure a predominant reputation in the glassless 3D sector.

The new product uses a ground-breaking eye-tracking technology, which builds on the existing parallax barrier device. A parallax barrier device places filters in-between display panels, to make each eye see different pixels of the image for a 3D effect. The eye-tracking technology follows the users' eyes to automatically project the optimum 3D image by using a built-in web cam that traces the eye movements real-time to adjust the angle and distance of the 3D image.

This technology allows users a simpler 3D experience, unbound by the hassle and discomfort of 3D glasses, LG proudly announced. It also resolves former limits to glassless 3D tech, which forced users to keep to a specified angle and distance, by allowing free movements without disrupting the 3D quality.

LG is the first company in the world to apply this eye-tracking device to 3D technology, and is believed to be a pioneer opening a new horizon in the sector.

The new product also includes a simple 3D switch function, which converts regular 2D images such as movies, photos, and games, into 3D images with just one click. The newly released 3D monitor comes in a 20-inch LED screen, and is listed as 1.29 million won ($1211.03).
