LGE set to launch 72-inch LED 3-D TV

LG Electronics Inc., the world's second-largest TV maker by shipments, said Monday that it is readying a 72-inch LED TV equipped with three-dimensional technology for a global trade show next month.

The company is scheduled to unveil a new LED 3-D TV that is larger than any other currently available on the market, it said in a release.

The model, to be first showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the United States, in January, will hit shelves in the global market during the first half of next year, it said.

As prices of the latest TV models declined faster than expected during the second half of this year on weak demand, TV makers are struggling to revive demand by launching new, high-end models that are larger in size with better display or more innovative technology.

LG Electronics replaced the chiefs of its TV and mobile divisions last month, after a founding family member took over the chief executive position in October. The company trails behind Samsung Electronics Co. in the global TV market. (Yonhap News)
