Lakota Oglala Sioux Native American participate in a gathering of tribes in South Dakota

epa02276705 A picture dated 06 August 2010 shows a Lakota Oglala tribal chief holding the American flag during ceremonies marking the Grand Entry of the 25th Annual Oglala Nation Pow Wow at the Lakota Pine Ridge Reservation in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, USA. The four-day annual gathering of the tribes brings together hundreds of Native Americans from the Sioux People who participate in activities such as dance competitions and inter tribal contests. The Lakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is located near the historic Wounded Knee massacre site where the US 7th Cavalry opened fire on Lakota Sioux Indians on 29 December 1890, killing up to 300 men, women and children. This was the last major military action against Native Americans. The celebrates their heritage and history and continues their ancient traditions and customs.
