Duk Padiet was attacked by the neighboring Lou Nuer tribe reportedly killing 76 people, over the weekend. Southern Sudan has seen a pattern of escalating violence since the beginning of the year which has killed more than 2,000 people. Some of the more recent attacks have deliberately targeted women and children and have had little or nothing to do with cattle rustling, a traditional cause of violence between neighboring tribes and ethnic groups in the region.
