Uighur protest in Tokyo, Japan

Uighur activist and the president of the World Uighur Congress Rebiya Kadeer held a press conference at the Japan National Press Club on 29 July 2009. Sixty two-year-old Kadeer is on 3-day visit to Japan to speak about current conditions of Uighurs and seek the support from Japanese people. Kadeer has been accused by China of masterminding a deadly ethnic unrest which left nealy 200 people dead in Xinjiang province of China. According to China's Xinhua News Agency, China's ambassador to Japan Cui Tinkai protested against Japanese government saying that Kadeer's visit to Japan may cause problems for China-Japan relations.
