World's largest vegetal bank

epa01734010 Technicians and scientists of the Unit of Genetic Resources from the International Center of Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) work on 14 May 2009, at its headquarters in Palmira, Colombia, which has collections of beans, yucca and tropical grasses from 141 countries. This deposit is the biggest world bank of vegetal materials due to its variety and diversity. According to CIAT director, Daniel Debouck 17 May, the bank, which has been operating for the last 31 years, will make two new deliveries of its collection to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, located near the Arctic Circle, and established for the preservation of a wide variety of plant seeds from locations worldwide at a 10 meters underground cavern, also called the Vegetal Noah's Ark.
