Lotte Energy Materials begins Copper Mark certification in Malaysia

Lotte Energy Materials Corp., a leading South Korean battery materials maker, announced Thursday that its manufacturing plant in Malaysia has begun the process of acquiring Copper Mark, a global certification by the International Copper Association that ensures responsible copper production and sustainability.
Copper Mark, introduced by the ICA in 2019, is the only global ESG certification in the copper industry, ensuring responsible production throughout the supply chain.
Since 2019, Lotte's Malaysian plant has been producing copper foil while actively incorporating ESG principles, particularly by utilizing hydropower, a renewable energy source. This initiative has received positive feedback from global clients who emphasize sustainable management.
“We will drive sustainable management by building a responsible supply chain and accelerating the transition to eco-friendly energy, thereby strengthening our global competitiveness,” said LEM CEO Kim Yeon-seop.
“We aim to become a leader in the secondary battery industry by setting higher standards for sustainable business practices.”
In 2023, LEM established an ESG Committee to proactively meet international ESG standards and enhance decision-making on key issues such as climate action, human rights and global supply chain management.
