Hyosung opens first AI data center in Seoul

Hyosung Group has entered the domestic data center market through a partnership with global data center operator STT GDC, opening its first artificial intelligence-focused facility in Seoul.

Hyosung said Wednesday that Hyosung-STT GDC, a joint venture between Hyosung Heavy Industries and STT GDC, officially opened “STT Seoul 1” in Seoul’s Geumcheon district on June 16.

The facility, designed with a capacity of 30 megawatts, is intended to support growing demand for cloud computing and AI infrastructure. Located in central Seoul, the data center aims to provide low-latency data transmission services to major business districts such as Gangnam and Yeouido, where securing sufficient power resources has become increasingly difficult.

STT Seoul 1 has obtained Tier Certification of Design Documents certification from the Uptime Institute, a global authority on data center standards. The facility was also designed to maintain uninterrupted server operations during equipment inspections or unexpected disruptions.

The project was led by Hyosung Group Chairman Cho Hyun-joon, who described the facility as a key milestone for South Korea’s AI industry.

“STT Seoul 1 will serve as critical infrastructure supporting the growth of Korea’s AI industry,” Cho said. “We intend to develop the data center business into a new growth engine for the group.”
