The parliamentary committee investigating the Jeju Air Crash inspected Muan Airport yesterday with bereaved families. Families demanded the committee for a special investigation team to be set up.

Members of the special parliamentary probe and bereaved families gathered on a section of the Muan International Airport runway.

During the inspection of bird-strike prevention measures at the time of the accident, shouting suddenly erupted.

"Why do we need to hear this? Why?"

It followed an explanation that the bird control staff, just one at the time, has now been increased to 12.

The families’ anger erupted in front of the concrete mound blamed as a factor that worsened the crash.

They blasted the authorities for removing the victims' personal belongings and debris, which can serve as evidence, without their consent ahead of the on-site inspection.

"Who removed it all?"

Although the inspection was halted at one point, it exposed loopholes in the initial response at the time of the accident.

The control tower reportedly alerted firefighters to a possible emergency landing and asked them to stand by, but issued no specific dispatch order or command.

Bereaved families are demanding that a special investigation team be set up.
