Lawmaker Kang Sun-woo returned home early this morning after a 21-hour overnight police interrogation over allegations of receiving nomination donations.

Police focused on the nature and use of the 100 million won, as conflicting statements continue between those involved.

Independent lawmaker Kang Sun-woo was summoned by police about three weeks after allegations surfaced that money was exchanged for a nomination.

She was questioned for 21 hours since Tuesday morning and returned home at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

I fully cooperated with the investigation and sincerely apologize for causing public concern.

Kang is accused of meeting Seoul City Council member Kim Kyung and receiving 100 million won in donation for nomination from her ahead of the 2022 local elections.

The latest police questioning focused on reconstructing the circumstances of that meeting.

She was reportedly asked about the nature of the 100 million won and whether she was actually there as the money was given and received.

Kang has been claiming that she came to know about the money only after her aide told her about it.

But it was reported that the police recently obtained a testimony from Kang’s former aide that she had used the 100 million won she had received from Kim for her jeonse deposit.

Kim also testified in detail that she handed over the money to Kang at a hotel in Yongsan in December 2021.

She also described how Kang reacted at the time.

Kim also said that the timing of the money being returned was around the fall of 2022, several months after the local elections.

Police plan to request a warrant to detain Kang based on what they found out during the questioning.
