BTS has confirmed “Arirang” as the title of its upcoming album ahead of its comeback.

The choice is drawing global attention to the traditional Korean folk song and its cultural meaning.

I was thinking about putting something that represents Korea, and then the keyword “Arirang” came up.

The fifth full-length album by BTS, set for release in March, will be titled “Arirang.”

The group’s management agency said the new album reflects BTS’s identity as a group that originated in Korea, and aims to capture the members’ diverse emotions through the theme of “Arirang.”

Major media outlets in the United States and the United Kingdom introduced the history and significance of the Korean folk song Arirang, and analyzed why BTS chose to put Arirang front and center, despite it being unfamiliar to many international fans.

The Guardian wrote that at a time when many mainstream K-pop artists pursue Westernized images,

BTS instead chose to emphasize its roots, signaling a clear affirmation of its identity.

Forbes said the album title reflects BTS’s intention to further promote Korean culture to a global audience.
