[News Today] “Shot arrow out of curiosity”

We previously reported that an arrow was fired near a woman out for a walk in Cheongju. Police have since questioned two men in their 20s, who said they had been drinking and shot the arrow out of curiosity, unaware anyone was nearby.

Two men take out a long arrow from the car trunk late at night.

Moments later, one of them pulls the bow string as if demonstrating how to shoot.

The other man follows suit, and later leaves the scene.

The arrow fell on a flower bed about 70 meters away.

Just two meters from it, a woman in her 50s was walking her dog.

The arrow was quite long. I was shocked to hear that it wasn't just a toy arrow.

A week after fleeing the scene, the two men in their 20s appeared for questioning at a police station.

Sources say the two turned out to be coworkers, who had been drinking together before shooting the arrow toward trees out of curiosity, claiming they didn't know there were people in the area.

They also told police that they had purchased the bow and arrows online and kept them in the car trunk just for show.

Police have found that the arrow could also be used for hunting.

It measured 80cm long and had a metal tip.

To find out whether the men were aware of passersby before and after the incident, police have obtained their mobile phones for a forensic analysis.

The key point is whether the crime is recognized as willful negligence based on how crowded the area was and where the arrow was shot.

Police have booked the two on charges of assault and will also add drunk driving charges.
