[News Today] “Kang ordered something loaded in car”

In the nomination donation case involving lawmaker Kang Sun-woo and Seoul City Councilor Kim Kyung, Kang had said that it was her aide who held the money and had no knowledge of it. However, it has been found that the former aide told police he loaded something into a car at Kang's instruction. Police have now summoned Kang for questioning on the 20th.

It was alleged that 100 million won in cash had been traded between then-Democratic Party lawmaker Kang Sun-woo and Seoul Metropolitan Council member Kim Kyung in return for being nominated for public office.

How did I come to this?

Immediately after the transcript was released, Kang claimed that she had not known about it until she was briefed on the matter by her secretary general. Afterwards, she said that she had instructed the secretary general to return the money and later made sure of it.

But KBS confirmed that Nam, who served as Kang's secretary general during that time, testified to the police on January 6th that he had put something in the car at Kang's instruction.

He claimed that he had met Councilor Kim Kyung with Representative Kang around the time of the local elections in 2022.
When he returned after leaving the two alone for a few moments, Kang instructed him to load something in the car.

In a confession letter to the police, Councilor Kim also said that she gave Kang 100 million won in person.

The testimonies by Nam pegged as the money deliverer and by Kim Kyung who supposedly gave the money corroborate each other.

However, Kang, who would have received the money, is still making a claim completely different from the two's testimonies.

The police notified Kang to appear for questioning on January 20th.

Kang's legal team didn't make any comments when the press asked for explanation.
