Stranded boats set for recovery after canal collapse in Whitchurch
epa12651110 An aerial photograph taken with a drone shows staff members from the Canal & River Trust along with rescue services using a winch to recover ?Ganymede?, one of two boats stranded in the collapsed Llangollen Canal in Whitchurch, Britain, 15 January 2026. Several canal boats were left stranded on the canal bed after the embankment failed on 22 December 2025. The breach caused millions of gallons of water to spill onto neighboring fields, leaving two boats stranded in the hole and another hanging dangerously over the edge. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the breach. EPA/ADAM VAUGHAN
