Lagos State authorities are demolishing homes and structures in Makoko, a densely populated waterfront community built on stilts along the Lagos Lagoon, as part of a wider plan to redevelop waterfront areas and increase revenue from coastal assets. Several human rights and environmental organizations, including the Centre for Children?s Health Education, Orientation and Protection (CEE-HOPE) Nigeria, Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF), and Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA), have denounced the clearing operations in a joint statement.
