Police investigating the alleged nomination donation scandal have interrogated a former aide to lawmaker Kang Sun-woo.

The aide is suspected of holding 100 million won received from a city council member, but is said to deny any knowledge of the matter.

A former aide to lawmaker Kang Sun-woo has appeared for police questioning as a suspect.

He is the first suspect to be interrogated in relation to the allegation of an illegal nomination donation.

The interrogation lasted nearly 16 hours.

In April 2022, when Kang was a member of a nomination committee covering Seoul city, she told then-committee secretary Kim Byung-kee that the 100 million won received from Seoul Metropolitan Council member Kim Kyung was being kept by her aide.

That's right. It was very thoughtless.

Earlier, Kang said she had repeatedly told her aide to return the money and even confirmed that it was returned.

However, her aide keeps saying that he knows nothing about that.

Police reportedly questioned the lawmaker's former aide about whether Kang ordered him to return the money.

Meanwhile, Kim Byung-kee says that after reviewing the matter, he concluded there were no legal issues as both Kang and Kim Kyung denied exchanging money.

Kang said the secretary general was clean on that matter, the money was returned, and Kim Kyung said she never gave any money.

The key figures in the alleged nomination donation are providing contradictory statements and changing their words.

Meanwhile, Kim Kyung, who left for the U.S. the day after a complaint was filed against him, is said to be coming back to Korea later this month.
