In Shanghai, President Lee Jae Myung stressed the importance of strengthening goodwill between the people of Korea and China and reducing groundless misunderstandings.

He later visited the site of the former Korean provisional government.

His four-day state visit to China wraps up Wednesday.

President Lee Jae Myung continues his four-day state visit to China now in Shanghai, following his visit to Beijing.

His official schedule in Shanghai began with a welcome dinner hosted by Chen Jining, the Shanghai Party secretary.

President Lee said that amicable friendly sentiment between the two countries' people is important and called for efforts to minimize groundless misunderstandings.

The remark is seen as urging mutual efforts to overcome anti-Chinese, anti-Korean sentiments.

Sources of friction should be minimized and mutually beneficial factors maximized so the two sides can move forward as good neighbors.

He also predicted that through his visit, bilateral relations will not only advance into a new phase but strained areas of the past will also be smoothed out.

During the banquet, the two sides discussed ways to expand economic exchanges between provincial Korean governments and Shanghai, a city that led China's overall economic growth.

As a provincial government, we hope to contribute to bilateral cooperation under the strategic leadership of the two presidents.

President Lee underscored the historical significance of this year marking the 150th year of the birth of independence fighter Kim Koo and the centennial founding anniversary of the Korean provisional government in Shanghai.

He also thanked the city of Shanghai for its interest and cooperation regarding sites related to Korea's independence movement.

President Lee on Wednesday paid a visit to the provisional government site.

He also attended the Korea-China Venture Startup Summit and met with young entrepreneurs from both countries.

He will wrap up his four-day China visit on Wednesday and return home.
