SK AX wins government approval for AI skills certification

SK AX said Tuesday that its AI Competency Certification Platform has obtained government recognition under Korea’s Corporate Qualification Government Accreditation Program, marking a milestone for enterprise-led AI skills validation.

The platform is a generative AI–focused competency certification system that SK AX has operated for about a year for roughly 3,800 SK Group employees. The government accreditation applies to company-run job qualification schemes that pass a comprehensive review conducted by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea, which evaluates the completeness of the assessment framework, the objectivity of results, and overall operational performance before granting public credibility.

SK AX was cited for its distinctive structure, which applies AI across the entire certification lifecycle—from exam participation and scoring to final evaluation—to verify candidates’ real-world job performance. Rather than testing theoretical knowledge, the system is designed to assess whether participants can apply AI to transform actual work processes.

The company said the certification is designed to move beyond simply confirming whether participants have learned AI concepts, instead focusing on whether they can apply AI to meaningfully change how work is performed. This emphasis on real-world execution reflects growing corporate demand for AI capabilities that are not only measurable but also immediately deployable, as companies accelerate their AI transformation efforts.

The certification process is divided into two stages: AI Literacy and an AI Bootcamp. All stages are operated on an AI-powered online platform, enabling scalable assessment while maintaining consistency and objectivity.
