Samyang Group acquires Lubrizol’s manufacturing, R&D unit in U.S.

Verdant Specialty Solutions, a chemical affiliate of South Korea’s Samyang Group, has acquired Lubrizol Elmendorf, a manufacturing and research and development (R&D) facility owned by U.S. chemical company Lubrizol Corp., the company announced on Monday.

Lubrizol is a specialty chemicals company that produces high-performance materials and solutions required for a wide range of industries, including engine oils, fuels, personal care, and advanced materials.

Located in Texas, the United States, Lubrizol Elmendorf is a facility that manufactures and conducts research on specialty chemical products essential for oil and gas production processes, such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) scavengers, scale inhibitors, and corrosion inhibitors.

The facility recorded revenue of around 47 billion won ($32.5 million) in 2024.

The latest acquisition was structured not as an acquisition of the entire company but as a selective purchase of assets, technologies, and personnel needed for a specific business.

The acquired assets include Lubrizol Elmenorff‘s manufacturing and R&D facilities, workforce, product portfolio, and pilot-scale equipment.

The acquisition date is December 31, 2025.

Samyang Group said it pursued the deal after determining that Lubrizol Elmendorf has a complementary product portfolio that does not overlap with Verdant’s existing energy solutions business, allowing for meaningful synergies.

Following the acquisition, Lubrizol Elmenorff’s assets will be integrated into Verdant’s energy solutions business and operated as a manufacturing innovation hub in North America.

Verdant’s strategy is to expand its portfolio beyond its existing businesses in amphoteric surfactants for personal care and non-ionic surfactants for industrial use to include specialty chemical materials for the energy sector.
