[LEAD]
President Lee Jae Myung will make a four-day state visit to China in early January at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.

The visit comes just two months after the leaders’ first meeting at the APEC Summit in Gyeongju.

[REPORT]
The itinerary of President Lee Jae Myung’s four-day state visit to China has been announced.

He will first visit Beijing from January 4th to the 6th.

President Lee will hold summit talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and take part in official events, including a state banquet.

Invitations were made previously at APEC. President Xi also expressed hope that President Lee would visit China at an earlier time.

He will then head to Shanghai on January 6th for a two-day stay.

The schedule carries historical significance, as next year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of independence activist Kim Gu and the 100th anniversary of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai.

The two leaders meeting again after just over two months is being viewed as a positive sign of improving bilateral relations.

Talks are expected on follow-up measures to implement memoranda of understanding on supply chains and artificial intelligence agreed upon during their earlier summit.

However, several security issues remain to be addressed, including North Korea, Chinese structures in the West Sea, Seoul’s pursuit of a nuclear-powered submarine, and Taiwan.

Attention is also focused on whether the visit could pave the way for Beijing’s ban on Korean pop culture to be lifted.

Kang Yu-jung / Spokesperson, Cheong Wa Dae
It is difficult to discuss the detailed agenda at this point. The talks will focus on expanding opportunities for economic cooperation and discussing broader issues concerning Northeast Asia within a framework of mutual cooperation.

President Lee is also said to be coordinating meetings with other Chinese leaders.

A large economic delegation, including both major conglomerates and small and medium-sized enterprises, is expected to accompany him on the trip.
