[News Today] Jeju Air tragedy 1st anniversary nears

December 29 marks one year since the deadly Jeju Air passenger jet tragedy which claimed 179 lives.

While time has passed, the pain felt by the victims' families remains, as calls for a full accounting of what happened continue.

Memorial pilgrimages are being held at the crash site to remember those who lost their lives.

This is the site of the Jeju Air passenger jet accident that took 179 lives.

The severely destroyed wreckage has been removed, but the concrete mound is still there, reminding people of the tragedy.

The victims' relatives and members of the public visited the area ahead of the first anniversary of the tragedy.

They let out their pain that they had suppressed in their hearts all along through sorrowful cries.

They would've survived had it not been for that mound.

The heart-wrenching cry of a mother who lost her beloved child hangs in the icy-cold air.

Bereaved family members and others hang up blue ribbons with messages on the airport fence, which is closest to the crash site.

Their heartfelt messages read, "I miss you" and "I love you."

We prepared ribbons and notes at the spot overlooking the site.
We believe every message left there will comfort the bereaved families.

The pilgrimage event titled 'Path of Truth' touring the tragedy site will continue through this weekend.

Many citizens visited public altars set up nationwide, including Muan Airport, Gwangju and Jeollanam-do Province, to pay their respects.

In Gwangju, a civic memorial rally demanding a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident and punishment of those responsible is slated for this weekend.

On December 29, the first anniversary of the tragedy, a memorial ceremony organized by the government will be held at Muan Airport.
