Nearly nine out of 10 South Koreans support stricter regulation of food delivery apps, with high delivery fees cited as the biggest source of dissatisfaction, a survey showed on Sunday.

According to a survey by polling firm Tbridge on 1,005 individuals aged 18 and over, 34.6 percent of respondents said they “strongly agree” that regulation of delivery apps is necessary.

The survey was conducted on November 25 and 26.

Another 52.6 percent said they “somewhat agree,” bringing total support for regulation to 87.2 percent.

Among respondents, 91.5 percent said they had used delivery apps. The most common complaint was “excessively high delivery fees,” cited by 58.3 percent of users.

Delivery apps also ranked highest in terms of regulatory priority among online platforms.

When asked which online platforms most urgently require regulation, 62.5 percent selected delivery apps, followed by direct-sales and delivery platforms such as Coupang and accommodation and travel platforms such as Yanolja.
