Hyundai Motor to expand plug-and-charge EV charging network

South Korean auto giant Hyundai Motor Group is set to significantly expand its plug-and-charge (PnC) network to dramatically enhance the convenience of electric vehicle (EV) charging.

Hyundai Motor Group announced on Thursday that it will increase the number of charging stations supporting PnC from the current 64 locations to more than 1,500 by next year.

The move marks a major expansion of the service, which has so far been largely limited to Hyundai Motor Group’s proprietary ultra-fast charging stations, branded E-pit.

PnC is an international standard that allows EVs to be automatically authenticated, charged, and billed simply by connecting the charging cable, eliminating the need for mobile apps, membership cards, or separate payments.

Hyundai Motor Group will work to expand PnC adoption in collaboration with major operators, including NICE Infra, Starkoff, and EVERON.

The conglomerate is also working with Chaevi, one of Korea’s largest private fast-charging operators.
