South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. has launched domestic sales of its Galaxy Z TriFold, a foldable smartphone with a dual-folding design.

The TriFold is a new form-factor smartphone that unfolds into a large 253-millimeter (10-inch) display and folds into a bar-type 164.8-mm (6.5-inch) screen identical to the Fold7.

When folded, it is 12.9mm thick, and when unfolded, its thinnest part is 3.9mm, making it the thinnest in the Fold series.

The device is priced at 3.59 million won ($2,430).

Samsung said on Friday that it will offer a 50 percent discount on repair costs for display damage. Samsung Care+, the company’s smartphone warranty service, does not apply to this product.

The TriFold will also be sold exclusively as a fully unlocked device, not through mobile-carrier channels.

Domestic sales are conducted through Samsung.com and 20 Samsung retail locations nationwide, including the flagship Gangnam store, where hands-on experience zones have been available since Tuesday.

Ahead of the launch on Friday, dozens of people lined up at stores, including the Gangnam store, even before sales opened, reflecting consumer anticipation for the new form factor.

Samsung explained that it enhanced the multi-window function on the TriFold, enabling up to three apps to run side-by-side, and optimized its default apps and Galaxy AI features for the large screen.

The company also said it maximized the TriFold’s large-screen utility by supporting the tablet version of Samsung DeX, a first for a Galaxy smartphone.

The device can be connected to external displays, a mouse, a keyboard, and other peripherals.

Starting with the Korea launch on Friday, Samsung will expand its availability to global markets including China, Taiwan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.

The specific timeline for overseas releases has not been decided yet.
