[LEAD]
The entertainment industry spent the weekend in turmoil after a series of controversies. The biggest shock came from actor Cho Jin-woong, who announced his sudden retirement just a day after past criminal allegations resurfaced.

[REPORT]
Actor Cho Jin-woong has been largely playing righteous roles like a police officer and a resistance fighter in various films including 'Believer'.

Last Friday, however, reports surfaced that he was allegedly a juvenile offender sentenced to stay in a juvenile detention facility during his teens and having assault and drunk driving records even after he became an adult.

Just one day after the allegations were launched, the actor announced that he was sorry for disappointing the public and that he will retire from acting.

As he is involved in numerous projects across film and TV, various companies and teams are busy dealing with the repercussions of this bombshell.

KBS turned unavailable for viewing, a 2021 documentary featuring him as a national envoy for the repatriation of the remains of independence fighter Hong Beom-do on YouTube.

SBS re-recorded a crime-related documentary narrated by Cho.

Also, it remains to be seen whether the already-filmed sequel to popular TV series 'Signal' in which he played a police detective can be aired as planned.
