Samsung retains top ‘AAA’ rating in strategic trade compliance

Samsung Electronics said Monday that it has been re-designated with the top ‘AAA’ rating under South Korea’s Authorized Strategic Trade Operator program by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources.

The program certifies companies that demonstrate strong internal controls and compliance capabilities in managing the export and import of strategic materials — items such as semiconductors and network equipment that are tightly regulated for national security reasons.

The AAA rating, valid for three years, is the highest among the three tiers (A, AA, AAA) and is granted based on various indicators including strategic goods classification, internal control systems, export review procedures, information security, and employee training.

Samsung received high marks for its strong compliance commitment from top management, reinforcement of its export control organization, and adoption of a risk-based monitoring system to detect potentially problematic transactions.

Companies designated under the program benefit from simplified administrative procedures such as shorter export license review times and reduced documentation requirements.

Samsung has maintained the AAA status since the program’s introduction, consistently demonstrating excellence in trade compliance management.

The government introduced the tiered certification system in 2014 to enhance transparency, efficiency, and corporate capability in managing strategic material exports.
