(Hyundai WIA)
Hyundai WIA announced Friday that it will supply an integrated thermal management system—including air conditioning and heating components—for Kia’s upcoming electric purpose-built vehicle (PBV), the PV5.

The move marks Hyundai WIA’s first entry into the automotive HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) market, expanding beyond its core business in powertrain components.

To support this, the company has developed two key technologies: a heating and cooling HVAC unit and a cooling module (CRFM) that controls the temperature of air and coolant. The system has been optimized for electric vehicles with lighter components and reduced noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).

Hyundai WIA tested the new system in extreme temperatures ranging from 65 degrees Celsius to minus 30 degrees, conducting performance and durability trials not only in Korea but also in countries like Germany and Sweden.

The company plans to begin mass production of similar HVAC systems for internal combustion engine and hybrid vehicles in 2027, with supply scheduled for the successor to Hyundai’s Kona.

Hyundai WIA is also scaling up its investment in eco-friendly automotive components, allocating 45.9 billion won ($33.5 million) this year, 56.5 billion won in 2026, and 57.8 billion won in 2027 for research and development in integrated thermal management.

The company stated that it will continue to pursue leadership in the global thermal management market, building on the advanced technology developed through the dedication of its team.
