BTS leader and rapper RM topped music charts around the world with his latest album, “Right Place, Wrong Person” — but inside, he feels like more than “an insignificant 29-year-old Korean man who just leads a little different life.”
“I was the face of our team who has to say the right things and good things,” RM said in a video uploaded to BTS's official YouTube account on Saturday wherein he sat down with his bandmate Jimin to share his deeper thoughts on the album.
The video was shot six months ago, before the two BTS members' enlistment in the military. RM's second full-length album, “Right Place, Wrong Person,” was released on Friday afternoon.
“I'm just an insignificant 29-year-old Korean man who just leads a little different life,” RM said. “But somewhere along the 10 years [of being BTS], I felt the pressure to be always right and different. I felt like I was going to die trying to please everyone.”
“The title of the album expresses that, me as the wrong person in the right place,” he continued. “I know that everyone would've felt like the only odd one out in a group or society once in their life.”
RM's 11-track album depicts the sensation of being “the wrong person at the right place” — a stranger who doesn't belong. While the first half of the album takes the listeners to a harrowing, lonely darkness, the second half brightens up with consoling messages of standing alone in a forlorn world.
“You did your best. You will be doing well, and you will always be more beautiful than I am right now,” RM told himself in the future as he closed off the interview.
“Right Place, Wrong Person” headed straight to the top of the daily album rankings of Japan's Oricon music chart, and lead track “LOST!” topped the iTunes Top Songs listings in 73 regions around the world.
