Kang Hyung-wook's Bodeum Company accused of 'continuous gaslighting' in viral reviews

Bodeum Company, run by dog trainer Kang Hyung-wook and his wife, is embroiled in controversy over accusations of workplace mistreatment. Negative online comments about the company are going viral.

Bodeum Company’s rating is currently 1.7 out of five on Job Planet, an online recruitment and job search platform.

“I quit here and got therapy due to a panic disorder, anxiety and depression,” reads a one-star review from April. “My mind has been devastated by the continuous gaslighting, blasphemy of character and continuous work requests after hours.”

The review said that Kang and his wife often gave instructions outside of working hours, including orders to make dermatology reservations. “It's a workplace that makes me feel sorry for my parents who raised me.”

“They didn't allow us to use KakaoTalk and told us to use a separate messenger so they could monitor what all the workers were saying,” the review read. “Boss even read through the messenger log all night to see if anyone bad-mouthed him.”

“It's not a company you can work at for a long time,” said a comment with a relatively high rating of three stars. “I want them to pay attention to their welfare.”

Similar accusations can be found in comments below Kang's recent YouTube video.

“Have you ever received six Spams in a doggy poop bag for Chuseok [harvest festival] presents?” the comment said. Kang allegedly demanded “extreme labor in extreme cold and extreme heat” as well as “work during the holidays” and screamed “in front of employees when a former employee reported the company to the Ministry of Employment and Labor.”

The comment had more than 750 likes as of Monday at 5 p.m.

Others have posted demanding an apology or explanation from Kang, who has yet to address the allegations.
