PARIS, France — Théâtre du Châtelet, located along the quays of the Seine, has been an emblematic theater and opera house in Paris known for hosting stellar operas, dance performances and musicals. Usually, visitors to this type of theater have to suppress their sneezes and refrain from creating any type of disturbance. However, on Thursday evening, the Italian-style auditorium that seats some 2,000 people was jampacked with people — and the swag was out of control.

파리, 프랑스 ― 센느강 부두 옆에 있는 샤틀레 극장은 뛰어난 오페라, 무용, 뮤지컬 등이 오르는 파리의 대표적인 극장으로 유명하다. 보통 이 극장을 찾는 관객들은 재채기를 참는 등 최대한 방해가 되는 행동을 삼가야 한다. 하지만 지난 목요일(5월 2일) 저녁 2000명 정도를 수용하는 이 이탈리아 스타일의 극장 객석은 사람들로 가득 찼으며 그들의 흥도 억누를 수 없었다.

They jumped out of their seats every now and then — automatically making those sitting behind them also stand up — and could not refrain from clapping, shouting and submitting themselves to the beat. This was the day when street dance took over — at least for those 90 minutes at the performance house.

관객은 간혹 자리를 박차고 일어나 뒤에 앉은 사람들까지 반사적으로 일어나도록 만들었으며 박수를 치고 소리를 지르며 박자에 맞춰 몸을 흔드는 행동을 자제하지 않았다. 이날이 스트리트 댄스가 이 극장을 장악한 날이 됐다. 최소한 90분은 그랬다.

Eleven dancers from 1Million Dance Studio, one of Korea’s most popular dance academies among foreigners, staged a feverish dance performance to signal the start of the “2024 Korea Season,” a grand cultural program spanning six months across various French cities including Paris, Avignon, Aurillac and Nantes — all as part of the 2024 Paris Cultural Olympiad.

한국에서 외국인에게 가장 인기 있는 댄스 아카데미 중 하나인 원밀리언 댄스 스튜디오의 댄서 11명은 2024 파리 문화 올림피아드의 일환으로 파리, 아비뇽, 오리락, 낭트 등 프랑스 여러 도시에서 6개월에 걸쳐 진행되는 대규모 문화 프로그램인 ‘2024 코리아 시즌’의 시작을 알리는 열광적인 댄스 공연을 펼쳤다.

The show, titled “Urban Pulse Uprising” was a collaborative dance performance by Korean and French crews, organized as the opening performance of the “2024 Korea Season.” 1Million Dance Studio’s performance was followed by the French group, Pokemon Dance Crew. Both Korean and French dancers showcased their gigs for 30 minutes each and then wrapped up the night with a 20-minute dance battle that brought the excitement in the auditorium to the next level.

‘도시 맥박의 반란’ 이라는 제목의 이 공연은 ‘2024 코리아시즌’ 개막 공연으로 기획된 한국과 프랑스 댄스 크루의 공동 공연이다. 원밀리언의 공연 뒤 프랑스 그룹인 포켓몬 댄스 크루가 이어 무대에 올랐다. 한국과 프랑스 크루가 각각 30분씩 공연을 선보인 뒤 20분간 댄스 배틀로 공연을 마무리하며 관객의 달아오른 흥을 한 단계 더 끌어올렸다.

Pokemon Crew is one of the oldest and most popular break dance crews in France. Riyad Fghani, the artistic director of Pokemon Crew, said his team performed at the Théâtre du Châtelet once “to perform a short piece for an award ceremony,” adding that this performance with 1Million was their fi rst at the Théâtre du Châtelet solely for break dancing. solely: 오로지, 단독으로

포켓몬 크루는 프랑스에서 가장 오래되고 인기 있는 브레이크댄스 팀 중 하나다. 포켓몬 크루의 예술 감독 리야드 프가니는 "한 시상식에서 짧은 무대를 한 적은 있지만 샤틀레 극장에서 브레이크 댄스만을 위한 무대를 하는 건 이번 원밀리언과의 공연이 처음"이라고 말했다.
