Google LLC hinted that a next-generation pair of smart glasses, the byproduct of its ongoing collaboration with Samsung Electronics Co., could feature the U.S. tech giant’s generative artificial intelligence (AI), Gemini.

At the 2024 edition of its annual developer conference, I/O, in Mountain View, California, the company introduced what it said would become a universal AI assistant called Project Astra. In a demonstration video, the AI engaged in a real-time conversation with a human speaker and recognized images from a smartphone camera. It also interacted with a user wearing smart glasses and explained what the user was seeing.

“We are working with partners on a new form factor (hardware) to install AI,” Google Android Ecosystems head Sameer Samat said in response to a question about the smart glasses. “ We will talk about XR devices made with Samsung Electronics and Qualcomm later (not this event).”
