Culture Minister Yu In-chon has sent a congratulatory message on Thursday to Ilyon Woo, a Korean American author who won this year's Pulitzer Prize in the biography category for her nonfiction book, “Master Slave Husband Wife: An Epic Journey from Slavery to Freedom.”
“Writer Ilyon Woo was able to win sympathy from readers with an original interpretation of history and humanity, with outstanding writing skills,” said Yu. "I sincerely congratulate her for achieving such a fruitful feat through her passion and agony.”
Yu added that he will continue showing his love and support to the writer, together with Korean citizens.
The announcement of her winning the prestigious award came on Monday.
Woo holds a BA in humanities from Yale College and a Ph.D. in English from Columbia University.
