Hyundai Motor Group to begin shipping EVs from U.S. Metaplant in Q4

South Korean auto giant Hyundai Motor Group is expected to begin delivery of electric vehicles manufactured at the HMG Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia, the United States, to its dealers and customers in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to Jose Munoz, global president and chief operating officer.

Commenting on the HMGMA Georgia plant on Sunday, Munoz posted in his LinkedIn account that he is “excited to begin shipping EVs to our dealers and customers in Q4.”

Currently, all of Hyundai Motor Group‘s EVs, with the exception of the Genesis GV70 electric model, are produced in Korea and then shipped to the United States for sale.

However, with the U.S. EV-dedicated plant in operation from the fourth quarter, a timely and demand-driven local delivery system will be established.

Consumers can also expect subsidy benefits under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which is expected to drive sales expansion.

Munoz also emphasized that Hyundai Motor and Kia EV customers will have access to Tesla’s Superchargers, accounting for 60 percent of the high-speed charging infrastructure in the U.S.

“In the fourth quarter, our customers will be able to access Tesla’s North America charging network,” he said.

In October, the auto giant’s North American subsidiary announced its adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS), Tesla’s charging method, for its EVs sold in the U.S. and Canada.

”Together with six other automakers ... we are also building 30,000 ultra-fast charging stations, and we’re also expanding home charging with Hyundai Home,” Munoz said.
