Korean battery trio’s EV battery usage share down 1.2%p Jan.-Feb.

The combined market share of South Korean battery trios in the global electric vehicle (EV) battery market fell by 1.2 percentage points in the first two months of this year, a report showed on Monday.

According to SNE Research Inc., Korea’s top three battery manufacturers LG Energy Solution Ltd., Samsung SDI Co., and SK on Co. saw their combined market share decline by 1.2 percentage points to 23.8 percent in the January-February period from a year ago.

LG Energy Solution ranked second with a market share of 13.7 percent, with battery usage increasing by 24.8 percent to 12.7 gigawatt hours (GWh).

Samsung SDI ranked fifth with 5.2 GWh and achieved the highest growth rate among Korean companies at 47.4 percent.

SK on accounted for 4.5 percent of the global market with 4.2GWh usage, down 7.3 percent from a year ago. The company ranked sixth.

Among Japanese peers Panasonic Holdings Corp. ranked fourth with 6.2 GWh of battery usage, down 11.8 percent from a year ago.

China‘s Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) maintained its leading position with a market share of 38.4 percent.

The overall battery usage in battery-powered cars, including pure EVs, plug-in hybrid vehicles, and hybrid vehicles, reached 92.4 gigawatt hours (GWh) in the first two months of this year, up 27 percent from a year ago, data showed.
