Polluted rivers and drought hinder water access in many parts of India

(Issued 20 march 2024) Dahisar river has become highly polluted with sewage, silt, debris and plastic bags as a result of industrial polution as well as that from slums and residential complexes in its banks. According environmentalist Anjana Pant, the amount of oxygen needed to decompose organic material present in a water sample of the river was found to be at 420 mg/l, way above the prescribed standard 30 mg/l.
