Polluted rivers and drought hinder water access in many parts of India

epa11231854 A Kashmiri woman from a tap in the village of Pattan area of Baramulla district, some 22 kilometers north of Srinagar, Kashmir, India, 18 March 2024. (Issued 20 March 2024) In Pattan area, five villages-Khanpat, Dasilpora, Harinara, Rakidispora, and Gajendra have not had a reliable potable water supply for the past 25 years, district coordinator of a non government organisation Ghulam Hassan and other villagers said. These villages receive two-hour water supply on alternate days and at times the locals have to consume stream water which is unsafe. Kashmir witnessed a comparatively dry winter in 2024 with 54 percent deficient moisture. Experts fear this might exacerbate the water crisis in Kashmir during the summers. World water day will be marked on 22 March. EPA/FAROOQ KHAN ATTENTION: This Image is part of a PHOTO SET
