Convenience store chain CU announced on Wednesday that it sold 2.5 million units of its “Extremely Convenient Meals” series, launched ahead of the March back-to-school season, in just three weeks.

The meal series maximizes size, weight, and quality to target demand for school lunches and spring outings. It was released on February 26th, 2024, and features a large lineup of 16 items ranging from lunch boxes and kimbap to triangular kimbap, salads, and dessert sandwiches.

CU’s sales of convenience food increased by 22.7 percent from March 1st to 18th compared to the same period during the previous month. By menu, lunch box sales saw the biggest increase at 21.8 percent, followed by kimbap (18.3 percent), triangular rice balls (16.0 percent), instant noodles (13.5 percent), sandwiches (11.9 percent), burgers (10.3 percent), and salads (8.0 percent).

“As high prices and lunch inflation persist, more students are looking for value-priced lunches at convenience stores. We expect demand for convenience food to grow even more sharply in the spring,” a CU official said.
