Four Seasons Hotel Seoul issued a news release Monday announcing Michael Schmid as its new general manager.
The Swiss-born hotelier was appointed in February and now runs operations at the five-star property in Jongno District, central Seoul.
After graduating from Ecole Hotelière de Lausanne's International Hotel Management program in Switzerland, Schmid started his hospitality career at the former Four Seasons Hotel Berlin, Germany, in 2000 as its restaurants, catering and banquets manager.
He has since accumulated over 20 years of experience in the industry's luxury segment, working as a general manager in Four Seasons, Hyatt and Marriott properties.
Hotels that he has previously managed include the former Four Seasons Hotel in Sao Paulo, Brazil; The Jaffa Hotel & Residences, a Luxury Collection Hotel, in Tel Aviv, Israel; Park Hyatt in Mallorca, Spain; and Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo.
In Seoul, Schmid is expected to combine extensive hands-on and strategic experience across food and beverages, room operations, project management, and brand-building and effectively communicate with the hotel's global guests through his multilingual fluency. Schmid speaks German, English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
“I’m passionate about empowering my team to provide the highest level of personalized luxury service for our guests while driving innovation across every aspect of operations,” he said in a news release by the hotel. “And I’m excited to share my diverse, global experience while staying true to — and inspired by — the authentic spirit of this remarkable hotel and destination [...] as well as the guests and staff at its heart.”
