Production of Kabakrou soap from palm oil and other ingredients in Abidjan
epa11016023 A man piles balls of 'Kabakrou' soap, also called 'soap-stones', in Yopougon, Abidjan, Ivory Coast, 07 December 2023. The 'Kabakrou'soap is a popular handmade product in Ivory Coast, the technique to make it was imported from Ghana in the late 1990s. The very hard and ball-shaped 'soap stones' are made from a mixture of palm oil, water and caustic soda, an ingredient that is highly irritating and corrosive and is often handled without adequate protection gear by the soap manufacturers in the informal production sector.
