Cable channel Mnet will launch another audition program to form a boy band, this time looking for skilled singers.
The upcoming project, titled "Buildup: Vocal Boy Group Survivor," aims to produce a boy group with profound and unique voices through a series of competitions, Mnet said in a press release on Tuesday.
The contestants are expected to display vocal abilities and present various vocal performances with unique singing styles, unlike anything previously seen from vocal groups, according to Mnet.
Actor Lee Da-hee will host the show. She hosted Mnet's girl group audition survival show "Queendom" in 2019, followed by boy band audition show "Road to Kingdom" in 2020.
Lee debuted as a model in 2002 and has been active as an actor, known for works like "I Can Hear Your Voice" (2013), "Beauty Inside" (2018) and "Search WWW" (2019).
"Buildup: Vocal Boy Group Survival" is scheduled to air in the first half of 2024.
JTBC is launching a similar audition show focusing on vocal skills, but to form a girl group titled "Girls on Fire."
The show will be produced by the team that was behind other JTBC audition shows, "Phantom Singer" (2016–) and "Super Band" (2019–2021). Comedian Jang Do-yeon will be the show's sole host, a first for the comedian.
