Fires ravage Pantanal, the wetland in Miranda

Highway BR-262, in the heart of the Brazilian Pantanal, is surrounded by waves of fire in a matter of seconds, as firefighters fight their way through the undergrowth to put them out. Fire once again ravage the planet's largest wetland, this time at an atypical time of year. It is November and it should be pouring rain in this vast ecosystem that Brazil shares with Paraguay and Bolivia, but there is not a cloud in the sky, just a thin smoke that covers the entire region for hundreds of kilometers.
