World Cravat Day marked in Zagreb

epa10926074 Actors portraying soldiers in the honorary 'Cravat Regiment' wear traditional 17th-century-style uniform with tie (cravat) as they take part in a ceremony marking World Cravat Day at Ban Jelacic Square in Zagreb, Croatia, 18 October 2023. World Cravat Day is observed every year on 18 October. The cravat is believed to have originated in the 17th century, when Croatian light cavalry forces joined the French army during the Thirty Years War and were established as a Croatian regiment, called the 'Royal Cravattes' within the French Royal Army. The regiment's soldiers, also called the Croats, wore a kerchief tied around their necks and were known for their military skills and appearance. This piece of clothing became a fashion accessory after it spread among the French army and later evolved into the modern necktie. EPA/ANTONIO BAT
