Hyundai Rotem Co., the locomotive and defense unit of Hyundai Motor Group, has delivered five K2 tanks to Poland, three months earlier than the schedule.

The K2 tanks arrived at the port of Gdynia in Poland on Wednesday, the company said on Thursday. The supply is part of a deal Hyundai Rotem signed with Poland’s defense procurement agency in August last year to build 180 tanks for its military. The due date for the five tanks was June.

The K2 tanks will be delivered to the Polish military after an on-site inspection and screening.

Hyundai Rotem has been pouring its labor resources into the manufacturing of K2 tanks by relocating staff and allowing overtime work for the supply. The company made the first delivery of 10 tanks in December 2022.

Hyundai Rotem said that early delivery was possible on the back of government and military support.

The Ministry of National Defense, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, and the Korean military shortened administrative procedures necessary for the K2 tank export. The Defense Agency of Technology and Quality also moved up the date for shipment with a quick review on quality.

“Poland expressed gratitude for the quick delivery,” said an unnamed official from Hyundai Rotem. “We will contribute to world peace by stably supplying K2 tanks.”
