Actor Lee You-mi of megahit Netflix original “Squid Game” (2021) won the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for the 74th Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater of Los Angeles, and the series itself won awards for special visual effects, production design and stunt performance.

The series was nominated for seven categories at the Primetime Emmys — outstanding guest actress, production design, cinematography, special visual effects, editing, main title theme and stunt performance — and won a total of four awards.

The outstanding guest category awards actors who deliver a distinguished performance in a guest starring role in a drama series.

The actor beat other formidable contestants to take home the trophy, including Hope Davis, Sanaa Lathan, Harriet Walter of HBO series “Succession,” Marcia Gay Harden of Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show” and Martha Kelly of HBO’s “Euphoria.”

This is the first time ever for a non-English language series to win multiple awards at the Emmys. Lee is also now the first Korean actor to win an Emmy.

For Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour Or More), the series beat out HBO’s “The Flight Attendant,” Netflix’s “Ozark” and Apple TV+’s “Severance” and “Succession.”

For Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode, the series was up against Showtime’s “The Man Who Fell to Earth,” Apple TV+’s “SEE,” TNT’s “Snowpiercer” and Netflix’s “Vikings: Valhalla.”

For Outstanding Stunt Performance, the series was up against HBO’s “Barry,” NBC’s “The Blacklist,” Disney+’s “Hawkeye” and “Moon Knight” and Netflix’s “Stranger Things.”

The Emmy Awards, hosted by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS), is one of the four major American awards for performing arts and entertainment in television and streaming content, along with the Grammy for music, the Oscar for film and the Tony for theatre. The award show is divided into two parts, with the Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards to honor behind-the-scenes personnel, and the Primetime Emmy Awards for actors and directors.

The rest of the seven nominations will take place at the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 12 to announce winners of the outstanding drama series, outstanding directing, drama writing, lead actor, supporting actor and actress — for which, director Hwang Dong-hyuk, actors Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Oh Young-soo and Hoyeon are nominated.

"Squid Game" follows Gi-hun and 455 other players who take on a series of deadly children’s games. They battle to be the sole survivor and win prize money worth millions.

The series is Netflix’s most-watched series, surpassing 1 billion views in just 28 days after its release last September.
